I love when fall comes around because inevitably, it will feature one of my favourite colors to wear personally, and apply on my clients: purple, plums, and burgundies. I find these hues to be especially rich in look and texture, thus LOVE any chance I get to apply especially when the season is “hot” for such colors. I think of plums and purple as a favorite cashmere sweater that although it’s worn every year around the same time, it’s a happy moment to put it on as it just feels “right.” That’s why this Tune in Tuesday is all about my Plum Obsessions (featuring cameo’s of my mother, father and sister)!
When applying plums, there is no wrong way. I usually take a more naturalistic approach when teaching, and applying on myself in my tutorials. Please know you can always add more for an incredibly bold look!
Here is what I used to achieve this look:
1.) Apply a light waterproof shadow all over. I used Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #9
2.) Apply Light Purple from base of lash line to crease. I used YSL’s Eye Shadow Harmony For Eyes #11
3.) Apply Deeper Purple as a “V” (sideways with the little point out toward the temple) from the lash line out and back in to the crease
4.) Apply Deepest Purple along lash line and “outside edge” of the eye
5.) Take a highlighting pen under your eye area and clean up and brighten for contour! I used Touche Eclat #2.5
6.) Apply pencil liner under the water line under the top lashes. I always use Dior “Trinidad Black Waterproof
7.) Apply liquid liner very tight to the lash line and flare out in a cat eye getting thicker toward the outside edge. I used ‘Shocking’ by YSL
8.) Apply mascara top down and from below up wiggling and holding for a second to ensure proper curl and volume! I used ‘Babydoll’ by YSL
9.) Apply purple mascara to the bottom lashes quite liberally! I bought the ‘Limited Edition Vision in Violet’ by Maybelline for under $6
10.) I did two lip options: one a Glossy Stain Rebel Nude #108 Violine Out of Control (more mild) and then a Rouge Pur Couture #31 for a more bold option!
Always remember a tooth check and of course your foundation, blush, bronzer, highlighter, etc!
Please let me know if you have any questions, or would like any other tutorials to follow-up this one! In the meantime, happy plum fantasies! If you are a visual learner, make sure to click on the video!
