DIY: Sugar Scrub!

When my beautiful bestie, Jess, and I went out for her big night, everything was going according to plan until I noticed a less than welcome accessory to my strapless navy lace dress: back acne.  Gross.  Yes, I get it once in a while, especially when I’m stressed or not eating as well as I should.  Soooo, my bestie showed me how easy a DIY scrub is and I want to pass along the favor.  Seriously; huge difference, super inexpensive, quick, and easy.

You will need: Olive or coconut oil, and sugar.

Ingredients needed! Feel free to use organic, unrefined, etc. This is just what I had in the cupboard....

That’s it.  So easy.  For a facial option, make sure to use brown sugar, either oil, a tiny bit of lemon juice, and honey and you will have a most indulgent DIY facial scrub.

Here are the steps:

One: gather your ingredients

Two: pour sugar into the bowl

Four: mix

I hope you enjoy!  What are some of your favourite DIY beauty treatments?!  Have you ever tried a sugar scrub before?

Happy Scrubbing!

How to Curl your Hair with a Straightening Iron

It sounds counter-intuitive, but for some reason, my hair holds the best when I curl it using a straightening iron! Sure, it takes a little bit of time to get used to, but once you have the hang of it, you might just turn over completely to the power of the straightening iron!

Personally, I have fine, Danish hair.  Yes, I have a lot of it (says my amazing hairdresser), but it is so fine that curling irons just tend to make my hair limp and lifeless. This is a trick I learned on set that saves time, is efficient, and gives all hair types long lasting, luscious curls!

You will need:

1. A straightening iron

2. Patience

3. Hairspray

4. Clip(s)

Step One: Section your hair with clip(s)

Step Two: almost turn your straightening iron downward, and starting at the roots, turn the iron away from your face in a continuous motion. Continue until all your hair is completed

Step Three: Hairspray and style as you like!

It’s an easy way to do hair, and I hope that you find the patience to make it work!  Check out the video for those who are visual learners, and happy curling!

I had so much fun at the Revive Your Style with Sincerely Jules event at Emporio Armani in Beverly Hills with Lucky Magazine!

I was “lucky” enough to do make up for the contest winner, Julie, a sweet and beautiful soul with a passion for blogging, style and travel!  Check out her blog, and the awesome article she wrote at the above link with a cameo of yours truly! I also was able to meet Sincerely Jules, and she is just a nice as she is gorgeous!

It was a fun and fantastic evening, full of make up, hor d’oeuvres, champagne and more!

What are some of your favourite events you’ve attended or worked?  Have you been to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills?

BEST ACTRESS GOES TO….

I had the absolute delight of accompanying my best friend, Jessica Martin, to the 5th Annual Indie Series Awards in Hollywood, California.  Jessica and I have been friends for pretty much over a decade, and we have seen one another through the best and absolute darkest of times.  I guess when you’re the best of friends, that’s what you do!

Ticket and Booklet!!!

One of the most exciting celebrations was when Jess found out she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy during this year’s IS5A’s for her work in “Wrecked”.  Of course we were both ecstatic when we found out, and I had the pleasure of being her date!

The Set Up!

The Set Up!

We began the day getting together, hitting the mall for some sweet, sweet churro, and getting our last-minute details.  Then, we headed to my house in the valley, and started on hair and make up.  Before we knew it, it was time to go!!!!!

So many people!

During the event, the drumroll rang, and then….they announced….JESSICA MARTIN for Wrecked!  Oh my gosh!  I was so thrilled, I started screaming, crying, and hyperventilating all at the same time.  Jessica didn’t believe they called her, so I grabbed her things, and pushed her out of her chair!

Her acceptance speech was brilliant, and I especially loved the call out she gave to me!!!!  Jessica brought up the fact that in the business, so many times you are told, “no.” And this room was full of people who made their own “yes.”  I thought that was a great take away. We can create our own yes.

So to a little lady with big dreams, and an award under her belt, you have the most proud best friend by your side.  Award or none though, you are still wonderful to me.

AND SHE WINS!!!!

Indie Series Award Win

💗💗

jessicamartin's avatarJessica Martin|actor

The day started out a winner because I got to spend it with my best friend Emily Oliver. We’re both so busy, it is special when we get to have a girl’s day together. Oh, and did I mention she is a celebrity makeup artist? She is. We had a great time getting ready and she worked her magic on my face. Then we met the Wrecked crew for the best pre-ceremony meal: Pizza!

I started the show backstage because fellow Washingtonian, Jonathan Holbrook, and I introduced the clips for our respective web series. I was nervous, but we made it across the stage without me JLawing (yes that is a verb). We quickly sat down after our clips and then something crazy happened.

I won an award.

I was seriously not expecting it. At. All.

There were so many wonderful performances in my category (Jessica DiGiovanni for 25

Spring Cleaning for the Face?

Keihl's

And another Must Have Monday to catch us up to this week!

Like all good rituals, when spring time hits, I realize what a toll my skin has taken over the strange winters in Los Angeles and I need to clean house.  I am still not 100% acclimated to the dry LA winters coming from Spokane, Wa where it is always snowy, and then Seattle, WA where it is always damp.  This brings me to my point.  My skin has been shouting, “SOS!!!!”  I needed a re-boot, and thought about getting back to my roots.  I worked with Keihl’s ages ago, and really love the integrity of the brand, as well as the mostly natural ingredients.  One of my favourite products back then was the Keihl’s Pineapple and Papaya Face Scrub.  Fast forward to this week when I decided to start using it again.

Love at first contact.  This product is a serious life saver.  Wow.  I love that it is an enzyme based scrub, and less “physical” (gritty) for those of us with sensitive skin.  I recommend this product for those with acne, dry skin, oily skin, the like, as it is a gentle peel that gets rid of dead skin, and shows off newly regenerated skin cells.

Here is how to use.

1. Clean your face

2. On damp skin, apply a generous amount

3. With gentle circular motions, coat the face

4. Allow to sit and just let the enzymes do their thing

5. Gently rinse away

6. Follow up with skin treatment regime

I am noticing a HUGE difference in my skin, and wanted to shout it out!  Go to your nearest Nordstrom, and ask for a sample if you’re hesitant to purchase before you try.   I hope that you love this product as much as I do.

Happy New Skin!

Love and Beauty,

E

Double Trouble

Milani and L'oreal

Milani and L’oreal

Uh Oh.  I fell behind in updating the blog.  However, I have been obsessing over these two products, and think that you all should know that there are awesome knock offs out there for every amazing luxury brand name product.  I am someone who loves luxury, and pack my kit full to enhance my client’s experience.  However, when using at home, there are so many amazing products that come at a fraction of the price.  This post is all about embracing the high quality outcome with a low quality price.

I am in LOVE with the Milani highlighter and Matte Cream Brow and Eye Lift.  It is seriously the closest product clone to my favourite Anastasia choice at about 1/2 the price.  I love applying this light matte pencil under my brow bone to enhance the arch.  My friend (@allie_vasquez on instagram) gave me this little tip, and I am so obsessed.

Another product that caught my eye is the L’Oreal liquid liner which is a close double to the Yves Saint Laurent liquid liner I use all the time in my tutorials.  I noticed this one runs a bit more stiff, but at about 2/3 the price, I can get used to that.

I hope you enjoy a high end look with these low end priced products!

Happy Saving Money!

Rock the Line

I LOVE eyeliner.  I have been obsessed with Guess’ ads since I can remember, and all because of that famously perfected winged eyeliner.

The look is actually quite simple, and easy to achieve.  You will need:

Eyeliner.  That’s it in addition to whatever other make up you desire; ie mascara, eyeshadow etc.

1. Apply from the outside of your eye downward toward the eye at a steeper than normal angle.

2. Apply from the inside corner of your eye to the middle of the eye in a very fine line

3. Connect the two parts together

4. Thicken the outside liner by simply dragging downward to the eye.

Voila!  That’s it!  You can now master winged eyeliner!  Please let me know if you have any questions!  Please make sure to watch the quick video for a visual demonstration!

Happy Lining!

Love and Beauty,

E
