Charity Girl Problems

Oh this Woman Crush Wednesday is fun!  I love lifting up and supporting women who I admire.  I really do admire Brooke Marston, Founder, Creative Director, & Editor-In-Chief of “Charity Girl Problems.”

Brooke and I

Brooke and I

Brooke is a pioneer.  She has set out to re-define what it means to be a “Charity Girl,” and give back to the community.  There is a warped notion that in order to partake in Philanthropy, you need to be a rich Housewife (or a well divorced woman), widow, or even Trust Fund Baby.

With all the outlets of Social Media, Brooke is saying, “no!” that’s not true.  Every week, Charity Girl Problems highlights a special cause, fund, and/or organization, and tells you how to get involved and give back to the community.  It can be as easy as going to the Church down the road to get involved with Food Services for the homeless, or supporting businesses which give back part of their sales to a charity of their choice.  I love Brooke’s passion for helping others and her modern-day social media platforms for Charity Girl Problems through her Blog, Twitter, and Facebook.

I asked Brooke to show me what’s in her make up bag, and here are the winners….

At the end of the day, I get to say I have a pretty cool friend who makes highlighting others a priority. Make sure to check out Brooke’s Scarf and the cause behind it!  I’ll leave you with Brooke’s words of wisdom:

I’m just a girl, crazy enough to believe she might just be able to change the world. At least the small world that surrounds her.

Happy Volunteering!

Coconuts and Dreams

Love

Love

Around this time last year, my amazing friend, and business partner, Robert, and I were getting ready to embark on a trip of a lifetime with amazing hair stylists Christopher Corum and  Jade.  Not only would we be working in the Caribbean, we would be working a non-disclosure SIGNED-tight lipped-security packed-high profile project which we would never be able to capture our work in photos or have those photos to say, “look what we did!”

We were able to take some photos of us on the boat, in the water, off the shore etc, which made it seem as though it was truly a dream.  It’s interesting that in this time, social media, blogs, etc are the living proof that we “did something.”

Double Rainbows and Horses in the Ocean...

Double Rainbows and Horses in the Ocean…

There was a liberation to just “living” while we were there.

IMG_4931 IMG_4925

We ate fresh ceviche, pulled coconuts of off the trees, and drank their juice, waded into the water, got lost and found ourselves on a private beach-airport, enjoying the private planes’ landings and take off’s.  Late-night piano and singing on the ship with the crew, Dom Perignon sent to our rooms, and room service 24-7.  It was another life.  And one I was so happy to jump into for nine beautiful days.

IMG_4951

IMG_4971

IMG_4944

Nostalgia hits in different ways.  Today I am in Los Angeles, happy with my hard work, dedication to art, and passion for beauty.  I can’t help but wish we could do it all over again.  I sometimes wish I could go back to my former self with everything I’ve learned this year with the confidence to say, “it’s going to be great, YOU’LL be great!”

NYE! I did our make up, Jade did our hair!

NYE! I did our make up, Jade did our hair!

IMG_4990 IMG_4988

Confidence is a delicate trait (especially as a woman).  If we have too much, we’re “cocky,” if we don’t have enough we are seen as “weak.”  You must be strong in this industry.  If I tip to “cocky,” at least I know I don’t come across as weak. Rob has always lifted me up, pushed me to be a better artist, to believe that we are here for a reason, and to share our gift.  He’s encouraged me not to apologize for talent and dreams, because that’s what this country is made from.

IMG_5163 IMG_5161

Us!

Us!

I believe talent is inherent, though technique can be learned, and that perseverance, confidence, and execution of your dreams are just as important.  I love Robert for pushing me just the right amount, and  believing in me no matter where I am in my journey.  He is my artistic soul-mate, and I will always love him for so many reasons.

IMG_5214

So on this Los Angeles, night, as I prepare for a roof assessment to see what new adventure home ownership brings from our leaky front entrance way, I can’t help but think of coconuts and dreams; cruising through the Caribbean with my best artistic friend.

Can we go back?

Can we go back?

Happy Dreaming.

Love and Beauty,

E

Freedom For Flight

Bestie and I

Bestie and I

When your “Bestie” calls you with spirit connected enthusiasm that she has found a way to help others and direct their passion, you say, “YAYYY!”

Freedom For Flight is all about creating “goal with soul.”  I love what Jessica composed on her website, especially the opening message from the founder of Desire Mapping, Danielle La Porte….

Screen Shot 2014-11-23 at 10.27.41 PM

Let’s talk about your life. Do you feel free? Joyful? Connected?  Most importantly, does your life feel the way you want it to feel?

It’s never too late to live a life that feels good. A life that you consciously choose and design, based on your own core desired feelings. I’d like to help you uncover those feelings so you can start building a life that helps you generate them.

Us being "us!"

Us being “us!”

I just love the idea of letting go, being free, and really committing to what you want in life.  This year has been a journey for me through physical ailments, life changes, and truly finding the courage and core of what I want to do.  Jessica has been there for me (actually for the past decade of ups and challenges), and with her new venture, I want to shout to the world that she is my first “Woman Crush Wednesday!”

I love people who want to give back and help others.  I truly believe that Jessica’s calling in life is to help guide others to their most true “self.”  So jump on the band wagon, get involved, and if you’re in LA or Seattle, please attend one of her workshops.  I know we can all use a little guidance, and I am thrilled to see what comes out of it for me, and for YOU! Please “like” her Facebook page as well!

Because I am her amazing friend, she is offering a 10% discount for anyone who signs up with my gratitude code; EMILY

Happy Flying!

Do What you Love

Do What You Love, Love What You Do.

Do What You Love, Love What You Do.

When we think of beauty, we often think of Grace, Audrey, and Eartha among others.  Why?  Because they were so elegant.  I strive to create beauty and elegance for my clients by doing what I love, and loving what I do.

While cosmetics are lovely, remember that the substance behind beauty is just as, if not more important.

“I find it is the compassion toward others which reflects the most beauty in yourself and to the world.”   -me

Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara from Ulta

My first mascara was “clear” and I felt so beautiful being allowed a tiny hint of make up!  The clear mascara makes lashes a tinge darker, but is not over-bearing or inappropriate.

Victoria’s Secret Body Splash

Feel free to support The Body Shop if Victoria’s Secret makes you uncomfortable, but at $14 a pop, these are pretty, fun, and smell better than you would think!!!! Love Spell anyone? *vintage*

Flower Bomb Body Cream

For the young lady who wants to feel grown up- Flower Bomb by Viktor and Rolf is the top-selling fragrance in the country, so it’s a sure home run- I suggest a body cream, as perfume can be a little personal and not always right on with everyone’s body chemistry. The Body Cream will leave her feeling special and beautiful.

Sephora Honey Mask

The best $6 ever spent.  This keeps skin supple, hydrated, and refreshed!  30’s become a time of career boosts, children, and family shifts which means a little pampering is in order! A mask is the most simple way to say, “take a moment for ‘you’ time!”

SKII Mask

My Luxe choice- SKII is super fantastic, reputable, and effective.  Keep it classy when delivering any present of skin care as a way to “treat herself” and never bring up the words, “fine lines,” “wrinkles,” “stress lines,” or the “you’ve been sooo tired.”  Remember, you want her to feel fantastic, and not ancient, so please proceed with this heed for the rest of the mentioned products!

Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil

A woman’s body is super miraculous, and goes through many changes during her lifetime.  Around the 40’s, women start to produce oil in certain areas and lose it in others.  An Advanced oil is amazing at helping keep at bay over productive oils (seems counterintuitive but is scientifically proven!) and help cushion areas that are lacking.  “Anti-Aging” is in the title (gasp) so make sure when gifting to her, you stress the importance of wanting to treat her to a relaxing spa oil that she can luxuriate with at home.

Algenist Oil

AGE 40’s

L’Occitane Delicious Almond Set

The scent, the fun packaging, the efficacy of the products.  L’Occitane is my total “go-to” for bath sets!  I have heard from my beautiful mother that around 50, the body needs more hydration, and I LOVE the almond line as it is so hydrating!

Spa Finder

Every woman at every age loves to be pampered.  I find that at 60, a woman might not necessarily purchase herself a spa package (message, facial, pedicure, manicure, etc) but she will certainly enjoy one if given to her!!!  I love Spa Finder as they have location affiliates in most cities, and you can determine how much you spend!  Have fun with it!

Giorgio Armani Si Fragrance Gift Set

In case you do want to be a bit risky (as fragrance is quite personal) and surprise her with something new, Giorgio Armani’s “Si” fragrance is a luxurious blend of Black Current Nectar, Vanilla, Patchouli, Chypre, and Blond Wood Musk.  Its complexity is intoxicating, and definitely one to explore.

“Fresh” Soap

Soap is a beautiful gift to give as most women won’t purchase a “pretty” soap for themselves, but LOVE to receive one as a gift! For our more tenured gift receiver, a pretty soap is a nice gesture from your heart to theirs!

"Fresh" Soap

“Fresh” Soap

80’s-100’s

Aquiesse Candle in Luxe Linen

This is the GO TO fragrance if you are unsure of a fragrance scent to give, the Luxe Linen is pretty, easy, and clean.  Aquiesse also burns cleanly, and when I light it in my living room, it gently wafts through my house making me so happy.  I say when in doubt, give a candle out!!!!

Aquiesse Luxe Linen Candle

Aquiesse Luxe Linen Candle

$21.42

80’s-100’s

Please note that many of these items are a “lust” version of my favorites and there are plenty of “musts” you can find at a lower price without the brand name!  Please take the ideas of ages and product as your example for shopping in case this list is a little lofty!

Most of these products can be found at your local Sephora.  I love Sephora because they do not work off of commission, and will connect you to the best products for YOU!  If you STILL aren’t sure what to get, grab a gift card.

I wish you all the best of luck, and please remember the people you are shopping for and the love you have for them when embarking on the retail adventure.  Please spread joy and kindness to your associates, and remember the meaning behind all the goodies we get to enjoy this Holiday Season.

Happy Holiday Shopping, and please comment below your favorite gift you have received from the cosmetic world!!!

Morning News and Holiday Trends!

Love being the station's beauty guru!!!!

Love being the station’s beauty guru!!!!

Nothing speaks “Holiday” more than a little glitz! However, it’s not always easy to start from scratch and make it to those holiday parties on time. I was lucky to work with KKFX Fox 11 News, and create a look that you can build on your already existing make up so you can party in style and on time!

Claire Anderson (@kcoyclaire on twitter) was my model, and I had the pleasure of being interviewed by the gorgeous Shirin Rajaee (@keytnc3shirin on twitter).

Here is what I used on Claire as my “lust” products…

1. The Urban Decay Space Cowboy Shimmer Shadow

Apply on top of your existing shadow on the lower part of the top lid. And you are never too old for a little glimmer so just go for it!

2. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Blush in a beautiful mauve

Apply as a “Nike Swoosh” starting at the apple of the cheek, and moving outward and upward.

3. Individual Ardel Short Black Lashes with Duo Glue in Waterproof (black)

If you are a beginner, half strip lashes might be a better way to start!

My business partner, Rob, (@facesbyrob on instagram) and I are obsessed with the Ardel Lash line!

4. Mascara!!! YSL Babydoll Mascara in black

Coat the top of the lashes downward, then from below upward in a wiggling motion.

5. Burgundy Lipstick! YSL!

Slide on, and go!

The Good Stuff

The Good Stuff

If you’re on a tight budget, my “must” products are…

1. Sephora “Girl Talk #45” Shadow

2. Revlon Blush “Mauvelous

3. I would not skimp on the lashes and glue! Splurge here!

4. L’Oreal Mascara in 24 Hour Power Lash (Black Smoke)

5. Sephora Brand “Mat Long Wearing Matte Lipstick ”

If you feel stuck, go to Sephora as they are not on commission and can offer an honest opinion on what might best suit you! For Santa Barbara, the Paseo Nuevo is the best!

Thank you to the whole team for having me in!  I can’t wait to come back for your Holiday Segment next month!!!!

NOTE: I will add a link to the video, as well as the station’s recap for all to view!  Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving Parties!

Love and Beauty,

E
